Dikko chairs National Sports Commission as FG dissolves Sports Ministry

Mallam Shehu Dikko has been appointed chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC) as the Nigerian Government, led by President Bola Tinubu has dissolved the Ministry of Sports.

Dikko had served as Chairman of Nigeria’s elite League, foremost international match commissioner, vice president of the Nigeria Football Federation and as a member of FIFA and CAF Committees.

The move to dissolved the Sports Ministry was part of the Tinubu’s strategy to create a vibrant sports economy by transferring the ministry’s functions to the commission.

Senator John Owan Enoh, former Minister of Sports Development, has been reassigned as Minister of State for Trade and Investment.

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau has extended his congratulations to the newly-appointed NSC chairman, saying his football administration experience will give him an edge.

He said in a statement: “On behalf of the NFF and the entire Nigeria football fraternity, I warmly and heartily congratulate Mallam Shehu Dikko on this huge national assignment that has been presented to him.

“I have no doubt that he has the knowledge, skill, experience, steadfastness, temperament, diligence and intelligence to make a success of the National Sports Commission.

“We served together on the same NFF Board for close to eight years, and I can attest to his enterprise and resourcefulness.

“He is a man full of meaningful and positive ideas, and the Nigeria Football Federation will surely work together with him to take our football to new heights of excellence.”
