Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has revoked the appointment of three traditional rulers in the state.
DAILY POST reports that the sacked traditional rulers are Alhaji Umoru Inusa Umoru, the Aidenogie of South Ibie in Etsako West; Lukman Akemokue, the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella in Etsako East and Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor, the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom, Agenebode in Estako East.
DAILY POST reports that the two traditional rulers were appointed by the immediate past government of Godwin Obaseki in 2024.
A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor said the decision to revoke the appointments was taken at the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.
He said the governor also ordered the immediate reinstatement of Alhaji Aliyu Kelvin Danesi as the Aidenogie of South Ibie community.
He said the decision is premised on the fact that the stool was not at any time vacant prior to the appointment of the former, Umoru Inusa Umoru.
On the revocation of the appointment of Lukman Akemokue as the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella, the governor said the appointment failed to comply with the Declaration of Customary Law regulating succession to the throne, as enshrined in the Bendel State Legal Notice 132 of 1979.
Okpebholo added that following the revocation, modalities have been set in motion to begin the process of selecting a new Okuokpellagbe of Okpella in line with the extant law.
The governor also approved the immediate removal of Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor as the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom, Agenebode in Estako East Local Government Area of the State.
Recall that the traditional ruler was earlier suspended over recent cases of incessant kidnappings and killings in his domain.
The governor added that a selection process has been set in motion for the selection of a new ruler for the Kingdom in line with the extant laws of Edo State.
He, however, urged all subjects of the affected communities to remain calm as the government remains committed to ensuring the peace, unity, prosperity and greater happiness of the people of Edo State.
