The Edo State Police Command has arrested a driver to a Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, over the alleged sexual assault of the governor’s aide’s 15-year-old daughter.
DAILY POST reports that the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Moses Yamu, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, identified as 50-year-old Mohammed Ihuenuma, to newsmen on Thursday in Benin City.
Yamu said the investigation is ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court after the investigation.
He advised members of the public to always report cases of rape, indecent assault, and defilement to the police for immediate action.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has zero tolerance for cases associated with Gender-Based Violence, GBV.
DAILY POST gathered that the suspect was arrested following a tip-off from the father of the victim.
It was alleged that the suspect often looked for an opportunity to fiddle with the teenager, who lives with her parents, whenever he came to the house on an errand.
A source alleged that the driver has touched the girl at different times in an indecent manner, trying to entice her.
It was further learnt that after several incidents, the girl reported the matter to her mother, who eventually informed her father.
The father later reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
