Ekiti wins first medal at National Sports Festival

Weightlifter, Abayomi Adeleye on Monday clinched the first medal for Ekiti State at the ongoing National Sports Festival holding in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Adeleye grabbed a bronze medal in the 55kg category to launch Ekiti on the medal table.

Speaking after finishing 3rd, Adeleye said he was proud of the achievement and hoped it would motivate his teammates to deliver more medals for the state.

Dr. Olusola Osetoba, Technical Advisor to Governor Biodun Oyebanji on Sports Development, commended the performance, calling it a promising start for Ekiti.

She expressed confidence that the state would win more medals at the games.

“This bronze medal is a positive sign,” she said. “It proves that Ekiti is not in Ogun State just to participate but to compete seriously. I urge all our athletes to take inspiration from Adeleye and aim for podium finishes in their events.”

She also affirmed that the state government would continue to support and motivate the athletes to excel.

It would be recalled that Ekiti State contingent took part in the festival’s vibrant opening ceremony held at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta on Sunday.

The National Sports Festival has entered day 5 with activities ongoing at different centers in Ogun State.
