Former Manchester United man, Gary Neville, has slammed defender Luke Shaw following his comments after their defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on Wednesday.
Manchester United would have hoped they won the Europa League and play in the UEFA Champions League next season to put smiles in the faces of their fans. But that dream hit the rock when they fell 1-0 to Tottenham in Bilbao.
The season has been a frustrating one for Ruben Amorim and his men who would be finishing slightly above the relegation zone when the Premier League ends on Sunday.
After their defeat in Spain, Shaw, who is among several players tipped to leave the Old Trafford this summer, faced the cameras where he questioned his teammates and stated that they need to rethink if they are good enough to be at the club.
Neville believes that Manchester United players are crossing a line, adding that the manager needs to clear up the dressing room this summer.
The former defender told The Overlap that only the manager should be able to decide which players are good enough for the club.
The former England international said, “Luke, it’s not your job to determine that, the manager will determine that.
“You’ve got to wipe out every single player in that dressing room who doesn’t believe that they have got total and utter confidence to play for that football club.”
Neville believes that the club is too big for the current set of players, adding, “Ruben, you’ve got to get a grip of that club.”
Going into the final game of the season, Manchester United are 16th in the Premier League table, and will not play in Europe next season.
