Europa League final: Embarrassing – Shearer blasts Amorim over decisions that cost Man Utd

Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer, has criticized Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim’s tactics in the Europa League final.

Shearer described Amorim’s decisions as “embarrassing” as the Red Devils lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.

Brennan Johnson’s scruffy first-half goal proved to be the match winner, ending Spurs’ 17-year wait for a trophy.

It also sent Ange Postecoglou’s side into the Champions League.

United were poor again and barely threatened to get an equaliser, resorting to launching long balls and crosses to Harry Maguire who was playing up front in the latter stages of the game.

“It was a really poor game, the standard was poor, but Tottenham won’t care about that,” Shearer said on The Rest is Football podcast.

“Let me tell you something, Man United were an embarrassment tonight – and in the semi-final – they’re chucking a 6ft 5 centre half up top in desperation and are lugging huge balls into the box.”
