
Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer has backed Tottenham Hotspur to beat Manchester United in a penalty shootout when both sides clash in the Europa League final on Wednesday.
The Red Devils and Spurs will clash in the Europa League final in Bilbao, Spain on Wednesday night.
Both Premier League clubs are keen to win the Europa League in a bid to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Shearer insisted that both teams will play a 2-2 draw and Spurs will eventually lift the trophy via penalties.
Shearer said: “Who would you say are favourites? Tottenham because of their record against Man United this season?
“They’ve both been rotten in the Premier League yet one of them is going to be playing a [UEFA ] Champions League football next season.
“My prediction is 2-2 or 3-3 after extra-time and Tottenham to win on penalties.”
The reigning Europa League champions is Atalanta as they won it last year after beating Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the final.
