Seventeen people were reportedly injured in a residential complex explosion on Wednesday afternoon in Taiyuan, the capital of north China’s Shanxi Province.

Four people were in critical condition with three discharged after treatment, the local authorities said, according to NAN.

The blast occurred in the Beijing neighbourhood of Xiaodian District at around 1pm but by 3pm, the fire triggered by the explosion had been extinguished.

The rescue teams are conducting door-to-door safety checks in the affected building.

The authorities say that an investigation into the cause of the blast is underway.

This is coming barely 24 hours after a restaurant fire incident in northeastern China killed about 22 people.
