The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday began a series of official engagements in China.

Wike met with officials of the CP Group in China as part of his official engagements.

Wike’s engagement was made public by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, via a statement.

According to Olayinka: “The minister is in China for official engagements, aimed at ensuring provision of water for Satellite Towns in the FCT.”

DAILY POST reports that Wike’s series of official engagements in China is aimed securing contracts that will lead to the provision of adequate water supply in satellite towns in the FCT.

While in China, the Nigerian minister is scheduled to also meet with officials of the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group.

In September 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited China and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and CGCOC Group to improve electricity and water supply in the FCT.

Tinubu advocated for the projects as part of his agenda to renew the hope of FCT residents in the government through the execution of people-oriented projects like provision of water.

In line with this, the President approved N50 billion for the provision of potable water in FCT satellite towns.

In keeping up with Tinubu’s directive that there must be water supply in satellite towns in Gwagwalada, Kwali and Kuje Area councils, the minister travelled to China a few days ago.
