The Nasarawa State Government has confirmed the receipt of ₦9.54 billion from the Federal Government as reimbursement for the handover of the Lafia Cargo Airport, now officially renamed Usman Dan Fodio Airport.
Governor Abdullahi Sule made this announcement on Monday during a high-level stakeholders’ forum held at the Government House in Lafia.
The airport, inaugurated three years ago by former President Muhammadu Buhari, was taken over by the Federal Government in 2022.
Since then, Governor Sule’s administration has persistently pursued repayment of the funds expended on its construction.
Present at the meeting were traditional leaders and members of the National Assembly who were instrumental in securing federal approval for the refund.
The governor used the opportunity to appreciate their support and officially disclosed that the long-awaited reimbursement had been received.
Participants at the meeting praised Governor Sule for his openness and commitment to development.
Discussions also focused on deploying the funds for infrastructure development — especially rural road construction and other capital projects aimed at improving access and economic activity in remote areas of the state.
