Team Ogun has emerged victorious in the women’s handball match against Team Kogi, winning 32-20.

The highly intense game played at the Alake sports center, Ijeja in Abeokuta on Tuesday, saw Team Ogun dominating the first half by scoring 16 goals, while Team Kogi managed 11 goals.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the match, the head coach for Team Ogun, Shola Sekoni, expressed excitement over the team’s performance.

Sekoni also commended the state government for providing a standard facility for the games.

He said, “I must first thank the governor for giving us this game. We just started so I will give them 50 percent. I believe we are qualifying and we are getting to the final.

“At the beginning, it was great but when we saw that we were losing energy later we had to change our game. They cannot understand our pattern, our next match is against Plateau, our girls are not leaving any stone unturned to ensure we win.”

Meanwhile, Kogi’s head coach, Emeka Joseph, despite losing the game remained optimistic that his team will bounce back in their next match against Plateau State.

“The girls did very well even though we couldn’t win the match. They played their best. We lost, but we are still satisfied while we prepare for the next match against Plateau state.

“We are not giving up, I believe we are going to win the next match,” he added.
