Real Madrid forward, Kylian Mbappe, has said he never wanted to be like Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.

He played down comparisons with the two football greats, saying the two football icons are “irreplaceable.”

Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid last summer, has already netted 30 times in 43 games across competitions in his debut season.

Just two more goals, the former Monaco forward will pass Ronaldo’s debut-season record of 33 goals, a number the legendary Portuguese striker shares with former Netherlands International, Ruud van Nistelrooy.

However, Mbappe has insisted that he is not trying to fill in the shoes of the greats.

The French, who is presently on international duties with France, told press conference, “I’m not trying to take their place. They are irreplaceable.”

Recall that after scoring his 30th goal of the season, the 26-year-old stayed humble, saying, “They’re legends who have defined an era.

“It’s important, but it’s all about numbers. If I score more goals than Ronaldo and Messi, it doesn’t mean I’m bigger, it just means my first season is going better.

Messi has as much as over 850 career goals in his basket while Ronaldo sits at the top of the all-time charts with over 920.
