
The Imo State Police Command has revealed that it has arrested 147 criminal suspects involved in various crimes ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, rape, child trafficking, and others.
The Command further disclosed that 7 AK-47 rifles, 3 AK-47 magazines, 7 pump-action guns, and 7 locally fabricated long guns, including 178 live cartridges and other items, were recovered from the suspects.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, in a press statement, the successful operations were the result of months of intensified efforts to enhance peace and security through a series of coordinated operations across the State.
“Over the past two months, the State Police Command has intensified its efforts to enhance the peace and security of Imo State through a series of well-coordinated operations across the State. These efforts, executed under the strategic leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, have resulted in significant successes in combating crime,” he stated.
Okoye added that the suspects were arrested following thorough investigations and intelligence-led operations, which also led to the recovery of various types of ammunition.
He disclosed that in one of the operations, five armed robbery suspects were neutralized during fierce gun battles with police operatives, and seven kidnapped victims were successfully rescued.
The spokesperson further stated that another major breakthrough occurred in Umuaka, Njaba LGA, when Anti-Kidnapping operatives arrested a 37-year-old man, Ozioma Ihedoro, who was said to be a native doctor and had previously been on the Command’s wanted list.
Okoye informed that the suspect admitted being the spiritual adviser to an alleged IPOB commander known as “B44.” During a search of his shrine, an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, and seven live rounds were recovered.
The Command’s spokesperson also stated that the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, in synergy with operatives of Njaba Division, arrested three more armed robbery suspects: Chinonso Anayo, also known as Pablo, a 21-year-old man; Emmanuel John, 20; and Ifeanyi John, also 20, all from Isiagu, Ebonyi State.
He narrated that the suspects were apprehended during a surveillance operation and have confessed to involvement in multiple robberies.
One Q-Link motorcycle, two pump-action guns, and fifteen live cartridges were also recovered from them.
Commending the operatives for their resilience, the State Police Commissioner, CP Aboki Danjuma, reiterated the Command’s commitment, alongside other security agencies, to safeguarding lives and property.
He noted that security measures have been strengthened across the State to eliminate kidnapping and violent crimes and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or the emergency line: 0803 477 3600.
