
Former France international, William Gallas has warned football icon Cristiano Ronaldo to lower his hopes of winning a World Cup in his career.
Gallas warned that such lofty hopes could lead to tears when they are not achieved at the end.
Ronaldo recently made his dream to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup known but Gallas believes such dreams will end in tears.
The legendary football star had after signing a new contract with Al-Nassr said he turned down the opportunity to play at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup in order to prepare himself for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Unless he encounters an injury setback, the 40-year-old Ronaldo will surely be in the USA for the World Cup.
Ronaldo helped Portugal to lift 2024-25 UEFA Nations League, scoring eight goals and making one assist in nine games.
He signed a new two-year deal with Al-Nassr, prioritizing his recovery for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to Prime Casino, Gallas said via Goal, “Cristiano Ronaldo will be at the World Cup next summer, and either way, it’ll be emotional.
“He may not be able to start games anymore, but he can still come off the bench. Portugal look strong – but it’ll be incredibly hard for Ronaldo to fulfil his dream. It will probably end in tears.”
Ronaldo is yet to win the World Cup. It is the only major trophy still eluding the Portuguese.
