
The Jada Local Government Area has won this year’s version of Governor’s Cup, a football competition that involed all the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State.
Jada LGA got the Cup after a penalty shootout that ended 4-2 against second place Yola North LGA.
The two finalists had played a goaless draw in the first 90 minutes of the grand finale which took place at the sports grounds of the Federal College of Education, Yola.
Lamurde LGA got the third place medal on the closing ceremony attended by top government officials, other dignitaries, and footbsll enthusiasts.
The tournament had kicked off in February this year.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who led his government delegation to the closing event, hailed the teams for their sportsmanship and discipline.
He announced a cash reward of N1 million to each of the 21 participating LGAs.
He pledged his administration’s commitment to sports development and urged the teams to start preparations early for subsequent tournaments.
Fintiri spoke of ongoing construction of what he called world-class stadium in the state capital, where he said future editions of the Governor’s Cup will be hosted.
