The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to fully automate its services to prevent extortion and enhance service delivery. This decision comes after reports of unwholesome practices and exploitation of candidates, particularly underage ones.

According to JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede in a bulletin published on its website, limiting physical contact is crucial to addressing these issues.

“Given that many of the candidates who take the UTME are underage, the board is considering limiting physical contact with those with challenges to avoid any alleged issues of extortion and other forms of exploitation,” he stated.

To achieve this, JAMB will transition to online interactions, recording calls for effective monitoring and quality control.

Oloyede emphasized that candidates will no longer need physical contact with JAMB officials, reducing opportunities for exploitation.

Measures to Prevent Extortion

– Automation of services to reduce physical contact
– Online interactions to minimize face-to-face meetings
– Recorded calls for monitoring and quality control
– Investigation team deployed to probe reports of extortion

Oloyede urged students who have experienced extortion to provide credible evidence, warning that culpable staff will face severe consequences. “Any staff found wanting will face the full wrath of the law,” he stated.
