The Kano State Government has inaugurated a 15-member technical committee tasked with overseeing the establishment of a new polytechnic in Gaya.
The committee was inaugurated by the state Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who also serves as the Commissioner for Higher Education.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Comrade Gwarzo urged members of the committee to approach the assignment with diligence and professionalism.
“You are to strictly adhere to your terms of reference and ensure the timely completion of your assignment,” he said.
“This project is of great importance to the people of Kano State, especially the Gaya region, and it must be handled with all seriousness.”
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, and shared with journalists on Tuesday.
Dr. Hadi Bala Yahaya, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher Education, will chair the committee, while Shehu Sani Dauda, Director of Administration and General Services in the same ministry, will serve as secretary.
According to the statement, the committee has been assigned multiple responsibilities.
These include assessing the existing infrastructure at the proposed site in Gaya, preparing a bill of quantities for additional facilities, drafting a bill for the polytechnic’s legal establishment, and developing both an academic brief and a physical master plan for the institution.
The committee is also expected to recommend the human and material resources necessary for the successful take-off of the polytechnic.
In addition, it has the mandate to co-opt additional members for advisory support and address any related matters that may arise in the course of its work.
The committee has been given a two-week deadline from the date of inauguration to submit its report.
