KEDCO blames reduced allocation for shortage of power in three northern states

Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has blamed reduced power allocation for the drop in power supply across its franchise area.

Recently, Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states have been experiencing days of power outage.

Clarifying the reduced power supply, KEDCO’s spokesman, Sani Bala Sani said, “We wish to sincerely apologise to our valued customers for the slight drop in power supply currently being experienced across our franchise area.”

According to him, “As earlier communicated, the reason behind the power shortage is a temporary reduction in our allocation from 300+MW to an average of 167MW due to limitations on the transmission lines.”

In the statement on Wednesday, he clarified that, the allocation even dropped as low as 150MW.

He noted that this is grossly inadequate to supply all customers.

He added that this resulted in massive load shedding and rationing across their feeders.

He said the TCN has promised to work tirelessly to restore power to the states soonest.
