The Labour Party (LP), on Friday, vehemently denied claims that its national chairman, Julius Abure, is advancing the interests of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The LP’s national publicity secretary, Obiora Ifoh, dismissed allegations made by Kenneth Okonkwo, a former LP presidential campaign spokesperson.

Okonkwo had claimed during ann interview on Arise TV that the APC would choose the LP’s 2027 presidential candidate, labeling the LP as the APC’s “housemaid.” However, Ifoh described these claims as “calculated attempts to distract” the party leadership.

“The LP has been critical of APC, unlike the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which has failed Nigerian workers,” Ifoh stated. “Under Abure’s leadership, the LP achieved unprecedented success in the 2023 elections, winning a majority of presidential votes, a governorship and numerous legislative seats.”

Ifoh criticized Okonkwo’s “clouded judgment” and Theophilus Ndubuaku, NLC’s acting political commission chairman, for spreading what he said were “baseless claims.” The LP reaffirmed its strong opposition stance against the APC-led government.
