The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday declared his bid to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Makinde was elected the Oyo state governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019.
The governor’s faction of the PDP also declared an alliance with the APM, where his preferred candidate, Mr Abimbola Adekanmbi, is expected to contest for governor in the 2027 general election.
Makinde made the official declaration at a Unity rally jointly organised to formalise the alliance between the two political parties in Ibadan.
The governor urged opposition leaders to unite against what he described as a deliberate effort by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to redirect Nigeria to a one party state.
He said Nigeria’s political landscape no longer operate democracy that guarantees a level playing ground for opposition parties without the interference of the ruling party.
Makinde, therefore, called on Nigerians to rise above being political spectators and bystanders.
He assured that with collective participation of all electorate, Nigeria would record a historic reset in the 2027 election.
