A man identified as Chinazum Ubani, has been apprehended by the Police for allegedly inflicting machete cuts on a 14-year-old girl, Miss Anaba, in Obete Nchina village, Ntighauzo community in Obingwa LGA of Abia State, following an unsuccessful rape attempt.
The attack was said to have been carried out by the suspect when the female victim had gone to the bush with her age mates to fetch firewood.
The father of the victim, Mr Chijioke Anaba, who confirmed the attack on her daughter, said that the suspect had attempted to rape his daughter which the young girl resisted, resulting in the machete attack.
Mr Anaba who said that the suspect earlier fled the scene after the attack, noted that the attention of his family was drawn to the bizarre act by her daughter’s mates who escaped from the bush, explaining that villagers mobilized and stormed the bush where they rescued the girl.
He also confirmed that the suspect has been arrested by the Eastern Ngwa Police Division but demanded that the suspected rapist, who is from the same village with him, should not be released but should be prosecuted accordingly.
The father of the girl, who insisted that the suspect, Mr Chinazum Ubani is not mentally unstable as he is claiming, raised the alarm that if he is released, he would launch a fresh attack on the victim.
“They have arrested the suspect, but from what’s happening, I am afraid that Chinazum may be released from detention to continue his attack and kill my daughter.
“The police should do their job because the boy is now a risk to the people in the village. The Police are saying he is a mad man but it’s not true,” he said.
He urged Abia First Lady, Mrs Priscilla Otti, to intervene in the case of his daughter who is now agonizing in pain in the hospital.
