Speaking at the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration held on Thursday at Haliru Abdu Stadium in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Idris described workers as indispensable partners in the state’s development.

He praised their dedication, resilience, and invaluable role in driving progress across sectors.

“Your hard work and perseverance are the foundation of our economy. As one of you, I understand the challenges you face, and I assure you, we are working to address them,” he stated in a statement by his apecial adviser on media and publicity, Yahaya Sarki.

The Governor reiterated his administration’s pledge to uphold workers’ rights and highlighted their key roles in vital sectors like healthcare, education, agriculture, and security.

“We are committed to protecting your rights and privileges.

” We recognize the vital roles you play across various sectors including healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and security,” he said.

He commended the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for their consistent advocacy and called for continued partnership in building a better Kebbi State.

Governor Idris also used the occasion to outline some of his administration’s achievements in workers’ welfare.

These include the full implementation of the new national minimum wage, the prompt payment of pensions, gratuities, and death benefits to retirees, as well as the completion of the ultra-modern State Secretariat complex.

Earlier, NLC State Chairman, Comrade Murtala Usman, appreciated the Governor on behalf of the NLC and TUC for his exceptional attention to workers’ needs.

He noted that Kebbi is among the few states that have already implemented the new minimum wage, crediting the Governor’s background as a veteran unionist for his continued support.

He also listed achievements by labour unions in the state, including the defense of workers’ rights, lawful engagement with government, and inclusive representation.
