The Joint Task Force North West Operation Fasan Yamma has refuted claims of civilian casualties during recent airstrikes in Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa communities, located in Zamfara State.
The military stated that the operations were directed at verified associates of the Lakurawa terrorist group, emphasizing the legitimacy of the actions taken.
In a statement released by the task force’s spokesman, Lt. Col. Abdullahi Abubakar, the military reiterated that all strikes were based on precise intelligence and reconnaissance to ensure the safety of civilians while targeting terrorist elements.
“The Joint Task Force, North West, Operation Fasan Yamma has addressed recent reports concerning a military fighter jet allegedly bombing civilian structures in the Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State,” the statement read.
“These reports have raised concerns; however, it is crucial to clarify that all military operations are conducted based on thorough intelligence and reconnaissance missions. This rigorous process is particularly important when targeting groups like the Lakurawa terrorist organization, as it aims to ensure precision and protect civilian lives.”

Lt. Col. Abubakar urged the public to be cautious of unverified claims that could lead to misinformation and panic, particularly in the ongoing battle against terrorism and banditry.
“Given the serious nature of these operations, the public is urged to rely on confirmed information to prevent misinformation and unnecessary panic,” he said.
He further warned that terrorist groups and their collaborators might attempt to discredit military efforts through media disinformation campaigns.
“There is a significant risk that terrorist groups may attempt to undermine military successes through media disinformation, necessitating caution concerning unverified claims,” Abubakar added.
The military emphasized that the airstrikes in Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa were carefully planned and executed, with the targets positively identified as affiliates of the Lakurawa terrorist group.
“Importantly, the targets struck in the vicinity of Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa have been positively identified as associated with the Lakurawa group, reinforcing the justification for the military action taken,” the statement concluded.
The Joint Task Force reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens while continuing its efforts to eliminate terrorist threats in the region.
