The murdered prophet of the Celestial Church of Christ, Eagle Parish, in the Idiroko border town of Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, Yomi Adetula, was the Idiroko Unit Commander of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, popularly known as So-SAFE Corps, DAILY POST reports.

So-SAFE Corps is one of the community security outfits established and funded by the Ogun State government.

Adetula, 54, was shot dead by unknown gunmen at about 10:30 am on Sunday while preaching to the congregation.

DAILY POST reported that Adetula’s assailants, numbering three, invaded the church, brought out a long double-barrel gun, and opened fire on the victim.

His head was also mangled with an axe to ensure he was dead before they fled the scene.

Although the exact cause of his murder is unknown, DAILY POST learnt that the deceased was the Director of Anti-Arms Smuggling for the So-SAFE Corps.

The police public relations officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST, stating that the victim was found in a pool of his own blood, with his head facing upwards.

Odutola noted that his corpse had been deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ilaro and that investigations had been launched to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death.

She said: “On careful observation, his body was riddled with bullets, and his head was not spared. To ensure the victim was really dead, it was mangled with an axe.

“There has been no arrest yet, but the police are actively working to apprehend the fleeing suspects, who escaped from the church towards the border area.

“Normalcy has been restored in the area, and potential clues are expected to emerge in the coming days as investigations into this tragic incident are underway.”

So-SAFE State Commander Soji Ganzalo also confirmed the incident, describing the news of Adetula’s assassination as a rude shock.

Ganzalo promised to provide the relevant security agencies with information that could lead to the arrest of the assailants, adding that the Corps would not back down until the incident was thoroughly investigated.
