A Nigerian-American mathematician and educator, Dr Akinyemi Agbede, has urged the Nigerian government to do more in advancing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

Agbede spoke in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Monday.

He said the Nigerian government needed to be practical in implementing its STEM-focused education initiatives.

Agbede, who is currently vying for the California governorship election in 2026, said that Nigerians in the diaspora are doing a lot to project the country in a good light.

“With an effective implementation of existing STEM policies, Nigeria can be the best globally,” the statement said.

Recall that in January 2025, the High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria, Pasquale Salvaggio; the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone, Dr. Julius F. Sandy; and the Ambassador of Ethiopia told President Bola Tinubu that Nigerians in the diaspora are achieving great feats in both public and private sectors in their respective countries.
