The Federal Government has unveiled a new electronic gate, e-gate, at the departure wing of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, MMIA, in Lagos.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, unveiled the gate on Friday.

In a post via his official X handle, the minister explained that the e-gate is to enhance passenger comfort and security, stressing the government’s dedication to improving Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure.

Keyamo pointed out that the e-gate project, funded through a Public-Private Partnership, PPP, with the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, aims to streamline passenger facilitation while bolstering airport security measures.

“In addition to the E-gates, Keyamo and FAAN leadership unveiled four newly acquired Compressed Natural Gas, CNG-powered airport transit buses. The eco-friendly buses, designed with accessibility features for persons with disabilities, are part of Nigeria’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and meeting global climate targets.

“These improvements reflect our commitment to enhancing passenger experience and ensuring Nigeria’s aviation sector meets international standards. The minister highlighted that the introduction of the E-gates and CNG buses represents significant progress in Nigeria’s aviation sector, emphasizing the importance of partnerships in driving development,” the Minister stated.
