The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has set up a six-member committee to advise the Federal Government on measures to make the national grid robust and reliable.

The Special Adviser on Strategic Communication and Media Relations to the minister, Mr. Bolaji Tunji, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

The committee is headed by the Executive Director, Independent System Operator (ISO), Mr. Nafisat Ali.

Other members of the committee are National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Commissioner, Dr. Chidi Ike, the Director, Transmission in the ministry, Mr. Emmanuel Nosike, the General Manager, Transmission Service Provider, Mr. Ali Sharifaid, the Chief Technical Adviser to the minister, Mr. Adedayo Olowoniyi and the General Manager, National Control Centre (NCC).

He said the committee members are expected to present a report to the minister on November 1.

The grid collapsed three times last week to throw the country into blackout.

The system collapse was the seventh this year.

The statement read: “The committee is to also establish the root cause of both incidents, especially a review of potential sabotage on the system.

“The committee will holistically review the national grid stability and identify investments and technical capacities required to make the grid smart and resilient.

According to Tunji, the minister expressed displeasure at the incident which was capable of rubbishing the giant strides made by the government in the last one year.
