
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that it will resume the Warri-Itakpe train service on April 30, following a suspension that began on April 10 due to multiple technical issues, including engine failures. In a statement issued on Monday, April 28, Callistus Unyimadu, Acting Deputy Director of Public Relations at NRC, said engineers had worked to address the problems, enhance operational capacity, and improve overall service delivery. The Management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) wishes to inform the public that following the suspension of Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) on April 10th 2025, due to technical and operational challenges chief among them multiple engine failures, services will resume on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, the statement reads. The NRC management, led by Managing Director and CEO Dr. Kayode Opeifa, apologized to passengers, stakeholders, and the general public for the disruption during the suspension. NRC engineers have worked diligently to rectify the issues, enhance operational capacity, and improve service delivery, the corporation stated. According to the NRC, the Warri-Itakpe train services will operate six days a week; Monday to Wednesday, and Friday to Sunday, with Thursdays reserved for maintenance of the track and rolling stock starting May 1. The corporation confirmed that passengers who opted for refunds during the suspension period have been fully refunded, while those who chose to wait can revalidate their tickets for any preferred travel day using the NRC electronic ticketing platform.
