Obaseki’s presence in Edo will make Okpebholo’s govt uncomfortable – PDP

The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday said former Governor Godwin Obaseki is not running from the state.

The PDP explained that Obaseki is staying away because his presence would make Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration uncomfortable.

DAILY POST reports that the former Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chris Nehikhare said this in Benin-City while answering questions from journalists.

Nehikhare said Obaseki’s presence would make the people to judge Okpebholo on a daily basis as a result of the former’s “good performance”.

He, however, added that if anybody, including the EFCC, ICPC and others need the former governor’s attention, they can write to him and he would respond to whatever they want.

He added that Obaseki is giving Okpebholo “space and opportunity to prove his worth to the people of the state”.

“The immediate past Governor of the State Godwin Obaseki is not on the run and if anybody wants him, including the EFCC, ICPC and others, they can write to him and he would respond to whatever they want.

“Godwin Obaseki’s presence in Edo State would make Governor Okpebholo’s administration uncomfortable, as he doesn’t want Okpebholo to be judged on a daily basis of his (Obaseki) good performance.

“Obaseki is doing his fellowship in a foreign university and there is a government in place in Edo, and his performance is not comparable to Okpebholo’s work now.

“Governor Obaseki is not coming back to Benin to run for Senate or any other position like other past governors. He has served at the highest level of governance in Edo and it is that “honour” he would continue to maintain,” he said.

Nehikhare urged Edo people not to listen to the “ranting” of the All Progressives Congress who, according to him, on a daily basis are blaming Obaseki for making his mark in the governance of Edo State.

Also speaking, the state PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr. Dan Ogbegie, faulted Okpebholo’s flyover project in the Ramat Park axis of Ikpoba Hill, describing it as unnecessary.

Ogbegie stated that roads in the Government Reservation Area, GRA, and other parts of the state require attention.

He blamed the present administration for abandoning its predecessor’s projects, noting that the government is a continuum.
