Ogun car crash: OOU VC mourns death of 3 students

The Vice-Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Prof Ayodeji Agboola, on Saturday expressed his condolences to the families of three of students who lost their lives in the Ilisan-Ago-Iwoye fatal road accident.

DAILY POST reports that Friday’s lone crash claimed the lives of Nifesimi Dada, a 300 Level Geology student of the institution; Opeyemi Joshua, 200 Level Taxation; and Ogooluwa Miracle Daniel, 200 Level Mass Communication student.

The police spokesperson in the state, Omolola Odutola blamed the crash on excessive speed on the part of the driver identified as Adekunle Adebiyi, who drove the Opel Safira with the license plate Lagos AAA-126HE.

Other students of the university, who were also injured in the crash, were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

In a statement released on Saturday by Wale Balogun of OOU’s Corporate Affairs Division, Ago-Iwoye, Agboola was quoted as saying that the university is still very pained by the death of its students.

The statement added that the institution is collaborating with the appropriate authorities to offer the impacted families support and aid.

The statement reads, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families during this incredibly difficult time.

“We can only imagine the unbearable pain and grief that they must be experiencing and we want them to know that they are not alone in the sorrow.

“The loss of precious lives is always devastating, and it is especially heartbreaking when it happens unexpectedly and under such tragic circumstances.

“Our university community is still reeling from the shock of this incident, and we pray for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed.”

The Vice-Chancellor expressed sympathy to the victims’ families and asked God to give them the strength to deal with the irreversible loss.

He also assured members of the public and the university community that the school will keep offering a secure and encouraging environment for all employees and students.
