Allegations of misrepresentation have emerged in Osun State over reports that Armoured Personnel Carriers, APCs, are being repainted from red to black, to be re-presented as newly acquired assets.
Ismail Omipidan, former Chief Press Secretary to ex-governor Adegboyega Oyetola, levelled the allegation against the Governor Ademola Adeleke administration on Monday.
In a statement posted on X, Omipidan said, “After painting the Omoluabi buses, they are now repainting the APCs from red colour to black.”
Omipidan alleged that the vehicles will later be paraded as new support equipment provided for security agencies by the Adeleke administration.
“Later, they will present them as being purchased by them to support security agencies in the state,” he stated.
The allegation comes amid ongoing public scrutiny over transparency and accountability in government procurement and public asset declarations.
Countering the allegations, Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said the APCs are being repaired in line with the governor’s vow to the people of the state that he will never abandon any inherited projects.
Rasheed also disclosed that Adeleke decided to rehabilitate the APCs because he was worried that they have been abandoned.
He also disclosed that boldly written on the APCs which are nearing the final stage of rehabilitation is the message: ‘Rehabilitated by Governor Ademola Adeleke’.
The statement reads, “Governor Ademola Adeleke is almost completing the rehabilitation of 11 out of 22 Personnel Armoured Careers (PACs) acquired by former Governor Rauf Aregbesola and abandoned for four years by former government of Mr Gboyega Oyetola.
“The governor, worried by the abandonment of the PACs which are rusting away, directed rehabilitation in batches with the first 11 carriers now nearing the final stage of rehabilitation.
“On the carriers are boldly written “Rehabilitated by Governor Ademola Adeleke” with the governor waiting to launch the second phase immediately after the final rehabilitation and upgrade of the first 11.”
Quoting Adeleke, the statement added, “In line with my vow never to abandon any inherited projects, I have approved the rehabilitation of the Armoured Personnel Carriers in phases. This will strengthen state security and surveillance.
“We are interested in politics without bitterness. Our goal is to develop Osun and never allow any state assets to waste away.”
