The management of Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, on Tuesday it has expelled over 58 students for involvement in cult-related activities between 2022 till date.

DAILY POST reports that the Rector of the institution, Dr. Salisu Shehu Umar, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Auchi.

Umar added that the institution has zero tolerance to cultism.

He says, “Cultism is a problem especially in this part of the country and no one can pretend to be ignorant of the menace of cultism.

“So far we have expelled over 58 students with cult related issues between 2022 till date and we are still doing it and not relenting.”

According to him, the expulsions have enabled the institution to cut down the magnitude of cult related activities in the school.

Umar further explained that on assumption of office as the rector of the institution, he called on the students to renounce membership of secret cults so that they could be forgiven, warning that whoever was caught would face the consequences.

The rector added that the directive made a lot of the students to renounce their membership of cult groups.

He added that the staff of the institution – including himself and management staff – swore to an affidavit of not belonging to cult groups.

“This can be attested to if you check the numbers of students expelled between 2022 till date.

“The institution has zero tolerance to cultism. Anybody who is caught in cult related activities will be shown the way out – whether staff or students,” the rector declared.
