
The Police Command in Akwa Ibom says it has arrested seven suspects allegedly notorious for burglary and stealing of valuable property in Ifa Atai Village in Uyo metropolis.
This is contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, in Uyo on Thursday.
John said on Wednesday, May 21, at about 8am, the police, acting on credible information, arrested a suspect residing in Ibiaku Ishiet Village in Uruan Local Government.
She added that during interrogation, he allegedly confessed to his involvement in burgling houses in Ifa Atai Village and its environs, along with his gang members.
The police spokesperson said that further investigation led to the arrest of six suspected receivers of the stolen goods.
According to John, the police have successfully apprehended a suspected key member of a notorious burglary and stealing syndicate, leading to further arrests and the recovery of stolen items.
“On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at approximately 8am, acting on credible information, police arrested suspect, names withheld, a male originally from Esuk Mba Village in Bakassi LGA, Cross River but residing in Ibiaku Ishiet Village, Uruan Local Government.
“During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to his involvement in burgling houses in Ifa Atai Village and its environs, along with his gang members.
“He also admitted to being a member of the Mafia secret cult group and provided names of his fellow cult members.
“Further investigations led to the arrest of six suspected receivers of stolen goods,” she said.
The PPRO added that a search on the suspects apartments allegedly resulted in the recovery of generator, several pieces of iron rods, eight solar batteries, quantities of nails and binding wires.
John said that an investigation into the incident was ongoing to apprehend other suspects.
She said that the Akwa Ibom police command remain committed to its mandate of protecting lives and property.
