Police in Cross River State have arrested a 48-year-old man, Mallam Adamu Ibrahim Umaru, for allegedly s3xually assaulting and impregnating his 15-year-old daughter, daughter, Amina Adamu Ibrahim. The suspect, a resident of No. 27 Edem Odo Street in Calabar and a native of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, was arrested by the Zone Six Human Rights Unit on November 15, 2024 following the investigation initiated after Aminas aunt, Aisha, filed a formal complaint. According to a statement issued by the Zone Six Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), SP Nelson Okpabi, the suspect denied the allegations during interrogation and was unable to provide an explanation for his daughters pregnancy He claimed he had been separated from Aminas mother for several years. SP Okpabi confirmed that Umaru is scheduled to appear in court on Friday as the investigation concludes in accordance with the law.It was gathered that Mallam Adamu Ibrahim Umaru, along with 19 others, is also facing trial before Justice Yusuf Halilu in Maitama, Abuja, on five charges, including attempted murder, breach of peace, and assault. However, Umaru, identified as the 20th defendant in the case, was absent from court proceedings due to a medical report submitted by his lawyer.
