Operatives of the Nasarawa State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) have arrested a notorious criminal suspect, identified as Abashe Gizo, at Shinge Market in Lafia, the state capital.
According to a statement released by SP. Ramhan Nansel, the command’s spokesperson, the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation based on credible and actionable information.
Nansel stated that Gizo, a male of no fixed address, had been on the police wanted list for a prolonged period over his alleged involvement in kidnapping, armed robbery, and cattle rustling across the region.
According to police authorities, the suspect was successfully apprehended on Wednesday after a sustained manhunt.
During interrogation, Gizo reportedly confessed to his involvement in several criminal activities and subsequently led investigators to his hideout in Ruwan Baka village, located in Doma Local Government Area.
At the hideout, operatives recovered an AK-49 rifle (Breach No. 453144) along with a magazine, believed to have been used in multiple criminal operations.
This arrest comes on the heels of another major success for the Nasarawa State Command.
DAILY POST had reported the recent apprehension of Fatima Salisu, who was intercepted while attempting to transport a large cache of ammunition from Doma to Katsina State, allegedly meant for criminal networks.
Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, commended the efforts of the SCID team and reiterated the Command’s commitment to crushing criminal syndicates and protecting lives and property in the state.
“This arrest sends a strong message to criminal elements that Nasarawa State will not be a safe haven for lawlessness.
“We urge members of the public to stay vigilant and continue to support law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities promptly,” Mohammed stated.
Nansel stated the importance of community collaboration in the ongoing fight against insecurity.
