The Police in Kano has arrested a notorious drug dealer, Sulaiman Danwawu, 32, of Tudun Yola Quarters, who has been in the center of hard drugs peddling in the City.

Danwawu who was previously charged in 2022 for possession of 500 cartons of suspected Tramadol tablets, was re-arrested for being in possession of illicit substances.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, during a press briefing held at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Friday.

Bakori said the recent operations align with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to adopt modern and results-driven crime prevention strategies towards safeguarding lives and property.

In a separate operation, a suspected armed robber was apprehended with two Beretta pistols and ten rounds of live ammunition.

The CP disclosed that between April 23 and May 9, 2025, the Command recorded the arrests of five armed robbery suspects, seven suspected drug dealers, one suspected cattle rustler, four suspected fraudsters, 13 suspected thieves and 48 suspected thugs (Yan Daba).

Items recovered include two Beretta pistols with 10 live rounds; various quantities of Pregabalin, Diazepam, Tramadol, Codeine, Pentazocine, and Cannabis; eight motor vehicles, three tricycles, and two motorcycles; 12 cutlasses, 15 knives, and counterfeit currency totaling 198 US dollar notes and N311,000 and five sheep, two rams, 12 mobile phones, an alternator generator and several household items.

Bakori stressed that the achievements demonstrate the effectiveness of the Command’s strategies in curbing drug abuse and related crimes, which he described as key drivers of thuggery, armed robbery and other violent offences.

“These achievements are testaments to the fact that the strategies employed are working. We have significantly reduced incidences of phone snatching, thuggery, and car theft,” he added.

He assured residents of the Command’s continued resolve to maintain peace and urged the public to support the police with credible information to prevent security threats.

“I want to appreciate the support of the media and the law-abiding people of Kano. We count on your cooperation to keep Kano safe,” Bakori added.

He outlined several key strategies implemented by the Command, including round-the-clock visibility patrols and operational sectorization of the state; community policing initiatives; intelligence-led raids and stop-and-search operations and regular training and capacity building for officers, particularly those in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), to enhance professionalism and human rights compliance.

“These strategic interventions have resulted in tremendous successes in recent weeks,” Bakori said.
