The Kebbi State Police Command has claimed that its operatives rejected a bribe of N1,060,000 offered by three members of the deadly Lakurawa terrorist group.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Nafiu Abubakar, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, said the three suspects, Umaru Garba (53) of Dangandu village, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji Mamman (51) of Maimaichi village, both in Arewa Local Government Area, and Usman Muhammadu (50) of Bakaramba village in Argungu Local Government Area, had offered the bribe to a team of police officers to compromise the investigation and prosecution of a banditry case involving suspected Lakurawa terrorists operating in northern Kebbi State.

According to Abubakar, the trio had offered the bribe to the lead investigator to compromise the case against them, which includes charges of aiding and abetting the Lakurawa bandits but the police team rejected the bribe and arrested the suspects who are currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Gwadangaji, Birnin Kebbi.

“The State Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, commended the detectives for their integrity and professionalism. He urged other officers to emulate their commitment to upholding justice,” Abubakar said in the statement.

“They (suspects) will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” he added.
