A police inspector has died following a fatal accident involving two trucks at a checkpoint along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State.

The incident, which occurred around 12:30 p.m. on June 29, took place near the Judiciary Complex checkpoint.

According to preliminary reports, a FAW truck transporting 900 bags of cement approached the checkpoint at high speed and without adequate caution.

The speeding vehicle collided with a stationary FAW mini truck that had stopped in compliance with checkpoint directives.

The force of the impact critically injured Inspector Afolabi Adeola, who was on duty at the time.

He was promptly transported to a medical facility in Lagos for treatment.

However, despite medical intervention, including an X-ray, he succumbed to his injuries on July 1.

Traffic personnel who responded to the scene conducted an initial assessment, which included taking photographs, drafting sketch maps, and recovering both vehicles for further investigation.

Authorities have confirmed that those involved in the incident will be arraigned in court on July 3 as part of ongoing legal proceedings.
