A man identified as Austine and his accomplices have been implicated in the theft of wigs worth N20 million from a moving truck on the CMS-Marina Bridge in Lagos, according to the Lagos State Police Command.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the incident occurred on April 25, when Austine and his gang reportedly targeted a truck transporting a large sack of assorted human hair extensions, executing the theft without the driver’s awareness as the vehicle crossed the CMS-Marina Bridge.
Following a tip-off, police operatives tracked Austine to the Marina car park beneath the bridge. In a failed attempt to evade arrest, he leapt from the bridge into the park, injuring himself in the process.
“He was found in possession of the stolen items and has been taken to a hospital for proper medical attention under close police watch,” Benjamin said.
A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the remaining members of the gang.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Owohunwa Jimoh, has urged residents to stay vigilant and support law enforcement by promptly reporting any suspicious activities.
