Residents lament as power outage cripples businesses in Taraba

Residents of Taraba State are once again facing severe challenges due to the ongoing power outage that has left the entire state in darkness.

DAILY POST observed that the blackout is affecting not only Taraba, but also the entire northeastern geopolitical zone of Nigeria.

The power outage, which began last Sunday, has severely disrupted business activities in the state, compounding the economic difficulties already confronting the people.

The prolonged blackout is raising concerns among locals as it has begun to deepen financial strain on both individuals and businesses.

Some of the people who spoke with DAILY POST said the blackout, which began four days ago, has not only slowed down their businesses but has also further made life cumbersome for them.

Abe Emmanuel, who took his time narrating how the situation has dealt several blows to him, said he has not been able to put food on the table for his family members in the last three days.

“Since power went off three days ago, I must confess to you that my family has not been feeding well because I am unable to meet up.”

Emmanuel, who gets his daily source of living from his barbing salon, said the present economic predicament has made it impossible for him to make use of his generator in the absence of power.

“This barbing salon is the only business my family and I depend on for survival. I am not a salary earner, so for the past three days, life has not been easy for me at all.”

Like Emmanuel, Toyin Adegoke, who is also a salon operator, said the absence of power in the past few days has left her without a dime in her account.

“Just like you have rightly observed, I have been sitting alone in my salon for the past three days doing nothing as a result of the blackout we are experiencing.”

Toyin, who claimed to be aware that the outage is not only in Taraba, said, “Some of my colleagues in Yola said the situation there is the same, but they are hopeful that it would soon be addressed.”

Like Emmanuel and others who spoke with DAILY POST on the ugly development, they urged the state government to collaborate with the government at the center by doing the needful in ensuring the immediate restoration of power to Taraba and its environs.
