The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), wants the embattled self-styled Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), Simon Ekpa tried for the murder of at least seven people including a pregnant woman who were killed for disobeying a sit-at-home order in July, 2023.

The Biafra agitation group who made the call on Thursday, said Ekpa who was arrested last week by the Finnish authorities on terror-related charges, had claimed responsibility for the killings of the victims and must be brought to justice.

In a statement posted on its X handle @ipob_central, the group accused Ekpa of resorting to violence to instill fear into the people whenever he fails to persuade them to do his bidding.

“Simon Ekpa claimed responsibility for the murder of seven civilians, including a pregnant woman. Their only crime was refusing his order to stay at home,” the group wrote.

“When he fails to persuade people with strong arguments about the necessity of civil disobedience, he resorts to violence to instil fear.

“He was recruited by some Nigerian politicians to destabilize the Alaigbo region. No reasonable freedom fighter would harm their people. He must face justice.

“In the month of July, 2023, Mr. Ekpa ordered an illegal Sit-at-home on the people of the South East region in Nigeria, while threatening to unleash a vile punishment against violators of such orders.

“Civil disobedience is only a choice left for a citizen who feels he is unjustly oppressed, to choose to abide by, and not by any forceful enforcement.
Just like the Simon Ekpa boys, Simon Ekpa atrocities and violent crimes against the innocent peoples in the South East are many. The Biafrans has rejected his government.”
