SocialMediaTrends: Angry customers hit at GTbank over service disruption

17 hours ago 3

Aggrieved customers of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) have been having a field day castigating the financial institution following their inability to access banking services for some days due to persistent downtime despite the bank’s claim of completing a transition to a new core banking application system.

The bank had announced last Friday that there was going to be a shut down of its services so as to carry out system upgrades with a promise to resume normal services shortly.

On Monday, the bank sent out another notification to customers with the following message:

“We have successfully transitioned—all our branches are now open till 6 pm to serve you. We are pleased to inform you that we have successfully transitioned to a new and robust suite of Finacle Core Banking Application Systems, and all our branches will be open till 6 p.m. today to serve you.”

However, even with the assurance, customers are still finding it difficult to access their accounts or carry out transactions online.

For days, customers of the bank, have been unable to use its digital platforms following the movement to the new banking system.

And to compound the situation, GTB has been crediting people randomly and taking back the funds without giving account owners access to the funds or providing any explanation for such.

This has led to some suggesting that the bank may be using their account to launder money without their permission.

Though some financial experts have explained that random funds distribution is part of the caliberation process of the new system upgrade, tweeps expressed their reluctance in buying into the explanation.

An X user with the handle, @AyshaHamman fired the first shot in a tweet:

“Hello Nigerians, @gtbank is using our accounts for what looks like money laundering. I’m ready to lead the charge in a class action lawsuit. Who’s with me?”
