
A violent confrontation occurred in Minna, Niger State, on Tuesday, 6 May 2025, when a police operation turned dangerous as a suspect attacked officers with a knife and cutlass.
The incident took place in the Anguwan-Daji community in Chanchaga Local Government Area during a police response to a distress call.
According to the Niger State Police Command, operatives from the Central Police Division were obstructed during the attempted arrest by one Bello Mai-danger. The suspect reportedly launched a physical assault on the officers, using a knife and cutlass in an attempt to resist arrest and free another individual in custody.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, 7 May 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that one of the officers sustained injuries during the altercation.
He said the situation quickly escalated, and the suspect was neutralised in the process. A second suspect was successfully apprehended.
SP Abiodun emphasized that the safety and security of officers and the public remain paramount, and the use of force was necessary under the circumstances. He reiterated the need for citizens to support law enforcement efforts, especially when dealing with individuals posing a threat to public safety.
The police spokesman further urged residents to continue providing credible information that could assist in the identification and arrest of criminal elements hiding within communities.
He assured that the command remains committed to maintaining law and order across the state.
