Suspected cable vandal electrocuted in Jigawa

A suspected vandal met a tragic end after being electrocuted while attempting to tamper with an armored electrical cable at the State Secretariat Complex in Dutse, early Wednesday morning.

Spokesman of the Command, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST.

According to him, “Today, Wednesday, May 15, 2025, at about 1000hrs, the Jigawa State Police Command received a distress call from the Ministry of Works regarding an unfortunate incident that occurred at the Jigawa State Secretariat New Complex, Dutse.”

He said upon receiving the report, police were mobilized to the scene where they discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified male adult under a culvert slab that contained armored cable wiring.

SP Shiisu said preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was electrocuted while attempting to vandalize armored electrical cables connected to a high-voltage power source.

He explained that the deceased’s body, which had begun to decompose, has since been evacuated to Dutse General Hospital.

He said the Command strongly condemns the criminal act and warns members of the public against engaging in such hazardous and unlawful activities.

The Jigawa State Police Command remains committed to protecting public property and ensuring the safety of lives and infrastructure across the state.

The Command, however, urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or activities in their communities to the nearest police station.

SP Shiisu said investigation is in progress.
