Tax reform bills long overdue – Political activist, Okai tells National Assembly

Comrade Usman Austin Okai, a political activist in Kogi State, has urged members of the National Assembly to prioritize and expedite the passage of the tax reform bills.

Austin said the reform is long overdue and essential for the economic development of Nigeria.

In a statement he signed, Okai called on those opposing the bills to reconsider their stance and prioritize the interests of the nation over political correctness.

He emphasized the importance of implementing a new tax system that is fair, transparent, and effective in generating revenue for the country’s infrastructure and social services.

His appeal comes at as President Bola Tinubu pushes for comprehensive tax reforms to improve revenue generation and ensure equitable tax treatment for all citizens.

Despite political differences, the Peoples Democratic Party chieftain stressed the need for unity and collaboration among lawmakers to pass the reform bill for the greater good of Nigeria.

He said: “We must bury our political differences and come together now for the interest of the nation.

“There must be no going back on the tax reforms as Nigeria urgently needs a new tax system to build a solid revenue base for our country’s development.

“With support from leaders like Comrade Usman Okai Austin, the National Assembly is urged to act swiftly and decisively to adopt the much-needed tax reform bill.”
