President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has arrived in Maiduguri, Borno State, to commiserate with the government and people of the state over last week’s devastating flood.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed on Friday that at least 30 persons died and 400, 000 others were displaced by the flood that followed days of torrential rainfall.

Initial reports suggested that the flood was caused by the collapse of the Alau Dam on the Ngadda River in Maiduguri, but the Federal Government has since dismissed the claim.

The president arrived in the state capital at 3:15 p.m.

He will thereafter proceed to one of the camps to address persons displaced by the flood.

The Borno State government has opened 36 camps to cater to thousands of displaced persons in the state.

President Tinubu returned to the country in the early hours of Monday after a 14-day trip to China and the United Kingdom.
