Samuel Bond Haskell IV, the son of a prominent Hollywood producer, has died by suicide in jail just days before he was due to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on charges that he brutally murdered and dismembered his wife and her parents. Haskell, 37, was found dead in his cell over the weekend, according to officials from the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department. Law enforcement sources said he appeared to have taken his own life. He had been held without bail after pleading not guilty to charges of murdering his wife, Mei Li Haskell, 37, and her parents, Gaoshan Li, 72, and Yanxiang Wang, 64. The gruesome case shocked Los Angeles after police revealed Haskell allegedly killed the three family members in their Tarzana home, then discarded their dismembered remains. His wifes torso was discovered in a dumpster in Encino by someone rummaging through trash, prompting a police investigation that led to Haskells arrest. The remains of his in-laws have never been recovered. Authorities said the killings took place in early November 2023. The day after the victims were last seen alive, Haskell reportedly hired day laborers to remove heavy black plastic bags from his home. One of the workers opened a bag, saw what appeared to be human body parts, and immediately called 911. By the time officers arrived, however, the bags were gone. Surveillance footage later captured Haskell disposing of something in a dumpster where his wifes remains were eventually found. Haskells father, Samuel Haskell III, is an Emmy-winning producer and talent agent who has represented major stars such as George Clooney, Whoopi Goldberg, Dolly Parton, and Kathie Lee Gifford. Reacting to the news of Haskells death, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman called it a final cruelty by someone already accused of unimaginable violence. Instead of standing before a judge and answering for these crimes, the defendant managed to escape justice.
