Troops arrest suspected gunrunner in Taraba

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, working with operatives of the Defence Intelligence Agency and local vigilantes, have arrested a man suspected of illegal gunrunning in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect was arrested around 7:45 am on May 13 during an intelligence-led operation in the Iware community.

“The suspect was reportedly apprehended following credible intelligence linking him to arms trafficking activities within the Amaseyo general area,” the sources said.

They added that preliminary interrogation indicated that the suspect was allegedly involved in illegal arms dealing, leading to his immediate arrest by the joint security team.

The suspect is currently in custody and is being further investigated.

Security agencies also said efforts are ongoing to dismantle arms-trafficking networks operating in the state and neighbouring areas.
