In a bold escalation of Operation FANSAN YANMA Phase V, Nigerian troops have launched a sweeping assault on terrorist enclaves across Sokoto and Zamfara States, dismantling key insurgent positions and seizing weapons and equipment.
The multi-day operation saw forces pushing through hostile terrain, targeting camps in areas such as Gidan Madi, Tsamiya Village, Tudun Ruwa, Alela, and the notorious Goboro Forest, a known safe havens for terrorist elements.
Security sources revealed that troops faced stiff resistance, including ambushes by the Lakurawa faction, a notorious terror group operating in the Northwest. Despite the threats, forces successfully cleared key locations including Areo, Damoria, and Tumuna Village.
“These camps served as logistical bases for attacks on civilians and security forces,” a senior military source disclosed.
During the intense operation, six terrorists were neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. One soldier sustained injuries and was evacuated to the 8 Division Military Hospital in Sokoto. A vigilante supporting the mission also lost his life in the line of duty.
Recovered items included weapons, ammunition, two handheld radios, and motorcycles used by the terrorists for mobility and communication.
