TUC national leadership suspends Rivers chairperson

The national leadership of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria has suspended the Chairperson of its Rivers State Council.

The suspension was communicated in a letter signed by the TUC National President, Festus Osifo, and Secretary General, Nuhu Toro.

According to the letter, the suspension was due to acts of misconduct and blatant disregard for the Congress.

Specifically, the Chairperson was accused of granting press interviews without the approval of the National Secretariat, even after a query was issued to him on June 20, 2024, to which he responded with an apology.

However, the letter, addressed to the State Vice Chairperson, Hassan Anka, stated that the Chairperson’s response was unconvincing and that, despite his apology, he reportedly continued to address the media, making inflammatory remarks and bringing the name of the Congress into disrepute.

The TUC expressed concern over the Chairperson’s actions, stating that they left the Congress with no choice but to further review his role and interest.

Consequently, he has been relieved of his duties as Chairperson of the Rivers State Council, effective from the date of receipt of the letter, pending further notice.
